MEETING OF THE PEQUOT LAKES CITY COUNCIL
MONDAY SEPTEMBER 22, 2008
PEQUOT LAKES CITY HALL
Members Present: Mayor Malecha, Council Members Oraskovich, Nagel,
Sjoblad, and Ryan
Staff Present: Sandra Peine, City Clerk
1. Call Meeting to Order
Mayor Malecha called the special meeting of the Pequot Lakes City
Council to order at 6:00 p.m.
The Council had previously requested staff to estimate costs to the
City of Pequot Lakes that would be associated with the annexation of
Jenkins Township. The Clerk noted that this information had been
prepared and included in the Council packets. The Council reviewed
the costs associated with the annexation of Jenkins Township.
Roads:
The Council reviewed the information provided by Mike Loven.
Discussion was held about the number of roads left to pave in the
township. Dave Sjoblad stated that most of the roads are already
paved. Tim Keene (Jenkins Township resident) noted that Birch Trail
would cost about $50,000 to complete. The Council discussed the two
sets of numbers provided by Mr. Loven; the first number of$92,825 is
the estimated cost to the City of the City continues to contract out the
work which is what Jenkins Township currently does. The second
number of$115,950 is the cost if the city hires a part time employee to
do the work and does not contract the work out and also includes funds
for future capital equipment purchase.
Police:
Police Service was discussed. The cost for police services was set at the
current rate that Jenkins Township pays the City for police services.
