City of <br /> Pequot <br /> �.. <br /> Lakes__ <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> TO: MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br /> FROM: SANDY PEINE, CITY CLERK <br /> DATE: JULY 30,2008 <br /> SUBJECT: COLE MEMORIAL BUILDING USE (MAIN FLOOR) <br /> HISTORY <br /> The Cole Memorial Building is a City-owned building. The Historical Society presently <br /> leases this building from the City for$1 per year(See attached lease). The Senior <br /> Citizens group subleases the main floor from the Historical Society. <br /> RECENT ISSUES <br /> 1. The Senior Citizens have approached the City and indicated that they can no <br /> longer afford to pay for the main part of the building that they use. <br /> 2. The Senior Citizens would like to continue using the building for their events. <br /> 3. The Senior Citizens have been subletting the building for use by outside groups. <br /> Mark Jurchen indicated that the City should be looking at more control over these <br /> groups and possibly requiring insurance. <br /> 4. The Historical Society has also indicated that they would not be able to afford to <br /> pay the costs to maintain the main floor of the building. <br /> PAST MEETINGS <br /> We have met on several occasions with Historical Society Representative and Senior <br /> Citizen Representatives. Those involved in the meetings have been Mayor Malecha, <br /> Council Member Sjoblad, Mike Loven, Sandy Peine, and Mark Jurchen. <br /> From these meetings it has been concluded the following: <br />
