1-Quoted 14 burglaries not taken care of-not accurate-some burglaries are still under
investigation, therefore cannot be discussed.
1-Police cars running-this was also addressed with the chief by Jim and taken care of
and reported back to the individual earlier this year.
1-Hours of service in the police department-The individual did not take into
consideration 9 months of the year, 1 officer is in the school full-time. With meeting
and other job requirements the Chief is not always available to work a regular patrol
shift like the rest of the officers on a regular basis. All shifts need to be covered when
officers are gone: vacations, comp time, sick leave. If an officer is called to court, they
must attend whether it is their regular duty day or not.
1-Addressed a theft in the community not taken care of, this was out of our jurisdiction
because it was a Federal offense.
1-Complaint stated we should be more aggressive in drug arrests-we are working with
other agencies and cannot comment on this issue
1-This complaint form had 16 signatures on it about over policing. Only 5 of those
signatures were from Pequot Lakes, (other signatures were from Cass Co,Pine River
and Ideal Township)
1-Complaint was against Mayor and 1 Councilman concerning a meeting and
discussion held-Councilman in question and the Mayor met with the party involved
(other then the person on the complaint form). Then the chief met with the
individual(other than the person on the complaint form). This matter had already been
taken care of
1-Complaint against Councilman-exchange of words. (Private issue)
1-Complaint about and altercation with a family member with health issues.
Unfortunate, police did not know the individual personally and that there were health
issues, no family member present to advise officers. They were called to investigate
and followed policies and procedures.
There were some comments on attitude.
I will personally write a letter to each of these complaints and explains the
circumstances. This letter will be reviewed by a Councilman to make sure everything is
accurate and according to the policies of the city.
Cathy Malecha, Mayor
