Open Forum <br /> No one appeared for open forum. <br /> 5.1. Governor's Fishing Opener <br /> Patty Buell updated the Council on the planning process for the <br /> Governor's Fishing Opener to be held in Breezy Point and Pequot Lakes. <br /> She noted that the results of this event will benefit the economic vitality of <br /> the City. <br /> 410 Jenkins Township Orderly Annexation <br /> Dennis Czech, Chairperson of the Jenkins Town Board addressed the <br /> `. Council. Mr. Czech indicated that the Town Board voted on March 11th to <br /> begin the process of orderly annexation to the City of Pequot Lakes. <br /> Sharon Thurlow, Town Board Member, indicated that the main reasons for <br /> approaching the City of Pequot Lakes with this request is that the Board <br /> feels the City's planning and zoning rules and regulations relate well with <br /> the Township's comprehensive plan and land use maps and this would <br /> ensure the protection of the Township's valuable resources. She further <br /> noted that Jenkins Township wants to be in charge of its own destiny and <br /> feels the timing is right to begin this process. <br /> Council Member Sjoblad noted that he and Mike Loven have looked at the <br /> Township's roads and indicated that they are in good shape. Discussion <br /> was held regarding the affect this would have on the City of Pequot. It was <br /> noted that the Township had a high market value due to the number of <br /> lakes in the area. Mayor Malecha asked the Council if there was any <br /> objection to pursue the annexation. It was the consensus of the Council to <br /> form a committee to discuss the issues and study the effect an annexation <br /> would have on the City and the Township. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD MOVED TO PROCEED WITH AN <br /> ORDERLY ANNEXATION WITH THE TOWNSHIP OF JENKINS. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER ORASKOVICH SECONDED THE MOTION. <br /> �, MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br />
