We understand the preference is to design the project in 2013 with possible 2014
construction.
The proposed improvements are to approximately 5,000 feet of Nelson Road (City of Pequot
Lakes on the west, Ideal Township on the east) from Wild Acres Road on the north to Akerson
Road / Buschmann Road on the south.
The proposed Improvements include the following:
• The existing roadway does not appear to be suitable for bituminous resurfacing (i.e. it has
met its useable life) and will likely only yield minimal salvageable base material. Hence, a
complete reconstruct will be required.
• The desire is that the design speed limit remain 40 mph.
• Cutting some of the hills and filling some of the dips so that sight lines (day and night) will be
improved.
We will review the existing profile for vertical site distances associated with a 40 -mph
roadway to determine the extent of cutting and filling necessary. If significant impacts result,
we will communicate / meet with each entity on this.
• The new roadway will be paved 24 feet wide with 1 -foot wide Class 5 shoulders.
• We understood from both entities that there should be good drainable (permeable) soil
along this roadway. Based on this assumption minimal swales on each side will keep water
away from and out of the roadway.
engineering I architecture I land surveying I environmental services
