PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE JUNE 4, 2008 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 22 members
were present. The minutes of the last meeting were approved without being read by a
motion by Oaks, second by Evenson, motion passed.
Truck and equipment checks were discussed. Engine 1 is missing an air mask, another air
mask has a bad face seal, and another air mask has a bad hose. Engine 2, Rescue 2, Water
Tender 1,Tanker 3, Grass Rig 1, and the trailer and ATV are all good. Rescue 1 is
missing a passport card. Tanker 2 is missing a 4" storz by a 2 '/2" reducer. Tanker 1 was
not checked. Grass Rig 2 has a bad siren which should be repaired by Saturday. All the
ice rescue suits are hanging upstairs. Always make sure the air and electrical lines kick
out before driving off to a call.
The financial report for our checking has a balance of$6323.04. The fire fund balance is
about $95,000. Evenson motioned to accept the report, second by Casanova, motion
passed. We received the $10,000 donation from the Narveson Management group. They
should have thank you cards sent to them.
The City is somewhat aware of our air mask shortage and problems. Bill checked on
financing a package of new air masks and it would be possible for about a $10,000
annual payment. Bill reported we have 14 air masks now and oOnly 13 are in working
order.
Our scholarship went to Josh Rudbeck this year. He has already sent us a thank you note.
Pine River fire Department is sponsoring a benefit on July 19th for Ken Frederick, who is
fighting cancer.
The safety issue tonight is that the summer season may bring on heat exhaustion during
strenuous activity. Be careful and pace yourself. The summer traffic will be here soon, so
be careful on the roads.
Loven would like to see a fill station for our air packs that would be mounted on a vehicle
to be located at scenes. We also need a list of our air bottles with the hydro test dates so
we can check them as they are filled.
Our new safety identification tags are done and will be put on your fire coat. The best
spot is on the zipper tab or on a pocket clip. We will also keep our Velcro on tags too.
Safety Town went well this year. We used the new safe house which only has one floor.
It has a sprinkler demo room, a bedroom in back which holds about 8 children, a smoke
`, alarm system, telephone capabilities, and it can be used as a command post for actual
