PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE MAY 7, 2008 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 24 members
were present. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read by a motion by
Szymanski, second by Varilek, motion passed.
Truck and equipment checks were discussed. Engine 1 was all good. Engine 2 has a rope
bag and a ram not on the check list, was missing a section of 1 '/2" hose in the back
compartment, and missing the oil dry. Engine 3 was all good, but is leaking gas from the
accelerator pump. Tanker 1, tanker 3, the water tender, The ATV and trailer, and grass
rig 1 were all good. Tanker 2 is missing a 4" by 2 '/2" storz adapter. Grass rig 2 is missing
a gas can. Rescue 1 is missing a set of jumper cables and has 2 ABC fire extinguishers.
Rescue 2 is missing an air bottle and has an extra TNT. The air bottle is leaking and is out
of service. We need to make sure that the hose on the reels does not kink on the grass
rigs. The SCBA's are all OK. The new rescue saw is on Engine 1. This saw should not be
used on a roof.
The financial report was the same as last month as no changes were made. Our balance is
$2157.94 and the City owes us $2399.27 for expenses we already paid. Our real balance
should be $4557.21. The scholarship balance is $1 167.47. The fire fund balance is about
$91,000. Dan has a can for pop can tab tops and would like us to crush pop cans for the
scholarship fund.
The only correspondence we have is an offer to purchase five radios and get one free.
This was tabled for tonight.
We need two new radio headsets for the pump operators. Loven motioned to purchase
them, second by Oaks, motion passed. There was no cost estimate available for this.
We are in grass fire season now and need to keep track of each other as best we can for
accountability. We all need to have proper gear for grass fires, which would include
bunker pants, boots, a jacket, gloves, and a helmet. We all need to turn in your
identification tags for accountability at any calls we have.
Under old business, the City does not want any of us to use speedy reward cards for any
city fuel purchases. The Speed Stop will no longer offer any charge accounts. The City is
going to get fleet cards to be used for fuel purchases.
We switched the location in the hall, for Rescue 1 and Grass rig 1 tonight. Please make
note of this change.
The medical board donation of about $4500.00, which was originally for the sound and
video equipment in the training room, will be used to purchase a new rescue saw for
$975.00, a new lap top computer for the training room, and a RIT pack for $2000.00.
