City Council Minutes
June 6, 2008
Sjoblad stated that the odor at the sewer ponds was bad. Gary noted that
there are a lot of air leaks going out to the pond which is causing the odor.
He noted that when they are able to spray he will begin working on
correcting the situation.
8.1 . Citizen Request to Reduce Water Bill
Gary Giltner noted that the Council has received a request to forgive a
portion of a water bill by Dave and Betty Settevig (owner of Wooddale
Apartments). Gary explained the situation.
COUNCIL MEMBER ORASKOVICH MOVED TO GIVE A REDUCTION
OF $342.16. COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL SECONDED THE MOTION.
Council Member Ryan noted that this type of request was denied a month
ago. He noted that he would consider the request if it could be
demonstrated that the water never made it into the system. He further
noted that the Council would be setting a precedent if a reduction in the
bill were given.
Council Member Oraskovich noted that because the property owners
installed meters to meter the water and this was the first bill they received,
that it was a different situation and should be considered for a refund.
MOTION FAILED 3-2. COUNCIL MEMBERS RYAN, SJOBLAD AND
MAYOR MALECHA VOTED AGAINST THE MOTION. COUNCIL
MEMBER NAGEL AND COUNCIL MEMBER ORASKOVICH VOTED IN
FAVOR OF THE MOTION.
8.2. Request to Purchase Mower
Gary Giltner reviewed the staff memo regarding the purchase of a mower
to mow the water plant, water tower and sewer ponds. The memo showed
that he received quotes from the Street Department and from a private
party for mowing. Gary indicated that he also quoted prices on the
purchase a new mower. He indicated that he has since discussed this with
Council Member Ryan. Council Member Ryan suggested that there may
be a way to utilize the equipment the City already has without purchasing
a new mower. Gary noted that it may be possible to use the street
department equipment to mow and have the sewer/water employees do
the mowing. Council Member Ryan indicated that he would like to talk
about a couple of other options with Mike Loven.
9. Police Chief Monthly Report
