PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE MARCH 5, 2008 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 26 members
were present. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as read by a motion by
Loven, second by Evenson, motion passed. The minutes were corrected to state Med
Corn was the firm we are working with for physicals, not Med Pad.
Truck and equipment checks were discussed. Engine 1 was missing 3 tarps, needs Hurst
oil, and the foam indicator lights still do not work. The gas monitors are back in service
and both were calibrated with the same gas. Engine 2 was OK. Engine 3 was missing the
rear generator and the rear tail light does not work. The generator was in Breezy and is
back. The water tender needs 2 spanner wrenches to replace the old ones, is missing a 4
1/2" to 2 1/2" adapter, and the defroster does not work. Tanker 1 is missing the 1 1/2" water
jet and the floating pump is off the truck because it leaked oil. Tanker 2 is good. Tanker 3
is out of service due to the electrical system which is all dead. It should have a kill
switch. Rescue 1 is good and it has only four air pack holders, not 6. Rescue 2 is good
and was cleaned. It does need valve extensions on the rear tires. Grass 1 is good. Grass
2's brake fluid looks milky and may have water in it. The ATV is good. The air packs
need 1 strap for a mask, has 1 bad pass alarm, had 1 air bottle on Rescue 1 that was not
connected to the mask, and air bottle#6 is leaking.
`— The financial report fire fund balance is $26322.36. Our relief checking new balance is
4977.88. During the month we paid $1300.00 for the pancake mixer and paid $655.00 for
the graphics on the new trailer. The graphics payment will be reimbursed from the fire
fund. Bills presented for payment were $58.10 for pop $4.02 for postage and envelopes,
and $2143.30 for sweatshirts and hats. The sweatshirt bill will be paid by the fire fund
and our checking Peterson II motioned to pay the bills, second by Mike Peterson, motion
passed.
There was correspondence from a municipal insurance firm that has several types of
coverage for city employees. They do not provide any health coverage. There was no
interest.
There have been safety issues with struts on vehicles flying out at the front and rear
during vehicle fires. Always approach a burning vehicle from side angles, not directly
from the front or rear W should be aware that fire hose can burst at anytime. Hose testing
can be very dangerous.
The new rescue trailer is in service and coupled to Grass 2 at the Breezy station. If you
are involved with it during an incident, make sure it is ready to just drop on the hitch ball
so one person can connect it to the truck. Also remember to disconnect the extension cord
for the ATV battery maintainer.
The thermal camera has been repaired for $300.00 labor and $315.00 for a new lens.
