WIDSETH <br /> April 27, 2022 Brainerd/Baxter <br /> 7804 Industrial Park Road <br /> Baxter MN 56425 <br /> Honorable Mayor and Council Members 218.829.5117 <br /> City of Pequot Lakes Baxter@Widseth.com <br /> 4638 Main Street Widseth.com <br /> Pequot Lakes, MN 56472-4405 <br /> Re: Patriot Avenue Real Traffic Temporary Test Section <br /> Honorable Mayor and Council Members: <br /> This is a follow-up to the most recent Patriot Avenue Redesign Committee meeting. <br /> The Committee has been reviewing potential ideas of future improvements to Patriot Avenue— <br /> transitioning it from a past rural-type(i.e., ditch-lined)State Highway to a urban-type(i.e., curb <br /> and gutter, sidewalks,trails, streetscaping)City Street. <br /> We have talked about using strip map exhibits, like we did with the Rasmussen Road Study, to <br /> gather feedback from the public on possible improvements.While this method works, and might <br /> still be used in the future, it is tough for people to visualize future improvements over what is out <br /> there today. <br /> So, there was discussion about implementing a real traffic temporary test section. <br /> The temporary test section is envisioned to be for the block of Patriot Avenue between Main <br /> Street(where the traffic signal is)and Sibley Street(next to the lumber yard). <br /> This segment has a rather wide paved roadbed. The idea is to place temporary striping, <br /> planters, delineators, etc.to simulate possible future improvements (parking, sidewalks, bump <br /> outs, a crosswalk, etc.). <br /> Widseth has done this before. One example is in Alexandria—a photo is attached. <br /> Widseth was asked at the Committee meeting to provide this proposal. <br /> Scope of Services <br /> Widseth proposes the following: <br /> 1. Obtain some field measurements. <br /> 2. Prepare sketches, using publicly available aerial mapping, showing two options for these <br /> temporary traffic control items. <br /> 3. Meet with, or email these sketches to,the Committee. <br /> 4. Get the Committee's feedback and update the two sketches. <br /> 5.
