PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS
Proposed improvement objectives consist of reducing the abrupt elevation drop at the
intersection of Coleman Drive and Pequot Boulevard and redirecting surface drainage to mitigate
direct discharge into wetlands and Sibley Lake.To accomplish this, two alternative solutions
were examined and are described below.
Alternative 1
This alternative includes placing enough fill at the toe of the steep hill, near the intersection of
Coleman Drive and Pequot Boulevard,so that the hill becomes a more gradual slope.Without
field survey or measurements yet,we anticipate this alternative would require minimal clearing,
marginal changes to the road alignment and geometry, and some rehabilitation to the subgrade in
the immediate area.
Coleman Drive is proposed to be 18 feet wide, bituminous paved with concrete curb and gutter.
To address environmental concerns with present drainage, surface drainage would be re-routed
via curb and gutter to the lowest section of the road, then piped west to a permanent stormwater
management area near the south side of the existing cul-de-sac.Existing driveway approaches in
the middle segment of Coleman Drive will require minor adjustment in elevation to match the
new road surface elevation which is anticipated to be 5 to 6 inches higher than the present
roadway surface. The 5 to 6 inches increase in roadway height is due to additional class 5 and
bituminous surface to be placed.A 1 to 2-foot bituminous kick out apron is typically extended by
the paver at driveway entrances.
Alternative 2
This alternative includes adjusting the profile of Pequot Boulevard so that the elevation of the
intersection of Pequot Boulevard and Coleman Drive is lower, in turn heling to decrease the
steepness of the slope on Coleman Drive. Without field survey or measurements yet,we
anticipate this alternative would require some clearing, some changes to the road alignment and
geometry, and rehabilitation to the subgrade in the immediate area.
CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES Page 8 FEASIBILITY REPORT
WIDSETH PROJECT NO.2021-12098 COLEMAN DRIVE
