From September
through May,one officer is assigned to the school fulltime per our contract.Currently that is Officer
Fyle.Officers Davis and Pickar work the night shift and Petersen and Fyle work dayshift. There is a half
hour overlap on weekdays and one hour overlap on weekends between shifts, meaning there are two
officers on for either a half hour or an hour. Information is usually shared between officers during this
overlap regarding calls from the shift.Sergeant Franz floats between days and nights as needed to cover
vacation time and sick time as well as double coverage for busier weekends. The chief typically works
days but fills in as needed. The officers mostly work 11 hour shifts on weekdays and 12 hour shifts on
weekends. This is standard for smaller departments to provide the best coverage for the city. With the
current level of six officers the Police Department provides 21.5 hours of coverage on weekdays and 23
hours of coverage on the weekends. The Office manager works Monday through Friday 8 to 4pm.
1.
