City Council Minutes <br />May 6, 2014 <br />Page 3 of 8 <br />Dawn Bittner explained that the City received a grant which helped defray <br />costs of a well-sealing project for a property owner in Pequot Lakes. This <br />particular well was located close to the City wells. The Council viewed an <br />educational video of the project. <br />7. Fire Department Report <br />Report received by Council. <br />8.1. Request to Hire Two Part-Time Officers <br />Council Member Sjoblad questioned whether background checks had <br />been completed by the City on both candidates. Chief Klang noted that he <br />had completed the background checks. Council Member Sjoblad stated <br />that he had a concern regarding one of the applicants and would like time <br />to discuss his concerns prior to hiring. <br />COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD MOVED TO HIRE SHERILYN FYLE AS <br />PART TIME POLICE OFFICER BEGINNING MAY 7, 2014 AT $17.82 <br />PER HOUR. COUNCILMEMBER AKERSON SECONDED THE <br />MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 4-0. <br />9. Public Works <br />9.1. Ordinance to Require Curbside Recyclinq <br />The Clerk explained that Nisswa Sanitation has informed the City that they <br />will no longer service the City's drop-off recycling program as of May 31St <br />Because of this the City has been working with surrounding refuse haulers <br />to consider adoption of an ordinance that would require the haulers to <br />offer drop off recycling to residential customers in Pequot Lakes. She <br />noted that the haulers were not opposed to the idea. <br />The Clerk requested the Council to consider adoption of the draft <br />ordinance requiring refuse haulers operating in the City to acquire a <br />license from the City and to offer curb-side recycling to residential <br />customers. The Clerk explained that SCORE funds which the City <br />receives will be paid to the haulers based on the weight of recycling <br />products. <br />MAYOR ADAMS MOVED TO ADOPT ORDINANCE 14-01, CHAPTER 9, <br />ARTICLE 9, RULES, REGULATIONS AND LICENSING RELATING TO <br />SOLID WASTE AND RECYCLABLE MATERIALS COLLECTION AND <br />DISPOSAL. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON SECONED THE MOTION. <br />
