He <br />contacted Veterinarian Deb Brown to try to save the dog. <br />Officer Gartner explained the following which was stated in the Incident Report: <br />The dog owner let the dog out to go to the bathroom. When she opened the door <br />the 2 dogs were attacking her dog on her property. Brian Garvey yelled at the <br />dogs to leave but the dogs showed aggression. Mr. Traxler was contacted to call <br />the dogs in. The attacked dog sustained broken ribs, puncture wounds, large <br />bruising on the underside of dog, ruptured diaphragm, kidney damage, and <br />diaphragm ripped open. The dog died as a result of wounds sustained by the <br />attack from Mr. Traxler's dogs. On February 12th Mr. Traxler was issued a citation <br />for a dangerous dog. Officer Gartner stated that he believes the attack was <br />unprovoked. <br />Lori Ukkelberg, 31432 Paul Circle, Pequot Lakes, MN, owner of the attacked <br />dog. She called 911 at 10:50 pm. She let the dog out to go to the bathroom and <br />did not make it to her kitchen before she heard yelping. She ran out to get dog <br />and other dogs were at the end of her driveway. When Mr. Traxler was contacted <br />to call his dogs in, he stated he did not know his dogs were out. The attack dogs <br />were on her property at the time of the attack. The veterinarian did surgery on the <br />dog and found the diaphragm ripped, a lung collapsing, kidney damaged, and <br />other unrepairable damage. The dog had to be put down. There is a park in the <br />neighborhood and she is afraid for children and other pets in the area. <br />Brian Garvey — 31432 Paul Circle, Pequot Lakes. When he came out to see what <br />was wrong the two attack dogs were standing on his sidewalk. He screamed at <br />them to get out at which time one of the dogs started snarling at him. He is <br />concerned about kids and other dogs at the park. <br />The Council asked the following questions: <br />Council Member Pederson - Age of dogs and whether the owner has always had <br />dogs. <br />Mayor Adams - Whose yard did the attack take place? <br />Council Member Akerson — Is there a fence in the yard for the dogs and if so, <br />why were the dogs not in the fence? <br />Attorney Rich Kenly submitted a statement from Kathy Markusun the dog <br />owner's veterinarian. <br />Council Member Pederson — Questioned whether Mr. Traxler was disputing that <br />the dogs attacked the neighbor dog. <br />
