They are not forwarding you any recommendations at this time.
They are sending you a number of items to consider regarding the design of North
Washington Avenue.
As part of the Downtown Plan update the Planning Commission has been reviewing the
importance of pedestrian amenities and overall aesthetics of the downtown area. The
design of North Washington Avenue (and all streets) is important to the long-term
viability of the downtown and the City as a whole.
The Planning Commission is submitting proposed enhancements to the design of North
Washington Avenue for your consideration. These added "amenities" contribute to the
overall "feel" that has been established in the Comprehensive Plan and the Downtown
Plan.
i. Pedestrian seating areas- The bumpouts in the current design will provide a
space for pedestrians to rest. Movable benches, tables, and chairs are proposed
in the bumpouts.
2. Patio seating area- I,ocated mid-block on the north side of the street, this
space provides for quiet resting area. Shade will be provided by the well
established trees near the seating area.
g. Decorative/pedestrian scaled lighting- This type of lighting is both
functional and aesthetically pleasing. A total of six lights are proposed.
4. Retaining wall seating with lighting- The current plan has seating spaces
along the new retaining wall. The Planning Commission is recommending the
wall have built-in lighting fixtures so the space will be comfortable for people day
and night. The lighting will also contribute to the ambiance of the street at night.

WWW.COMMUNITYGROWTH.COM WWW.STRONGTOWNS.ORG
