may not be correct. We do have local health and fitness clubs, Community Theater, a
public library and the Trailside Center.
Trails and Scenic Byways — "Other trails" are referred to but existence is not known.
Include in the Action Plan to connect or create trails.
Public Natural Areas — the DNR owns the Fire Tower; the City maintains the parking
area. There are five City Parks that should be listed.
Private Facilities — Tall Timbers Resort no longer exists. The RV Resort is registered
with the Chamber. The last sentence should be removed.
The Planning Commission wondered if recreational land could be purchased with Park
Dedication funds.
c. Natural Resources Action Plan —
Wildlife and Rare Species — some of the species should be removed. Line 35, Jack pine
barrens is incorrect. Red and White pine should be listed instead. This needs to be
accurate. It is bookish and doesn't fit our area. Page 12, line 9, Potlatch is no longer
managing these forests for timber. We need to find out what they plan to do with their
property within the City. There is an historical significance of Potlatch property for
recreation, etc. It may in transition to become residential property.
1%, Protecting groundwater was mentioned as a potential resource to protect in this section.
The Tree Farm program was also discussed. They are used to curb development, clean
the air and to hold water /retain moisture. Councilman Nagel will supply information and
potential sites.
Vice -Chair Adams opened the Public Hearing.
APPLICANT: Donald Babinski
Applicant requests to Rezone from Light Industrial to Commercial
Mr. Oleson explained the Staff Report. Mr. Babinski was not present.
Public Comment: None.
Mr. Williams pointed out that the map on the first page of the Staff Report only indicates
one parcel. Staff stated that the parcel to the south should also have been highlighted.
He also stated that Mr. Babinski had been before the Planning Commission a while ago
and asked if that had been for a rezone request. Staff stated it had been for a permit
extension.
Minutes 2
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
November 19, 2009
