Council Member Malecha indicated that this
has been policy for many years. Council Member Nagel stated that the
response time and ability to respond quickly to a call when an officer is off
duty is better if the car is at the home of the officer. Jack Schmidt spoke
about the policy that allows the police officers to drive the squad car home
if the officer lives a maximum of 15 miles from City Hall. He talked about
the cost to the tax payers regarding this policy.
Jack Schmidt showed a photo of a Pequot squad car covered with snow
while at an officer's residence. He questioned why the City is allowing this
to happen to a police vehicle. He stated
that he is opposed to the resolution as the City has already demonstrated
its commitment to the alternate alignment and because there should be an
allowance that would allow property to be rezoned to commercial if the
property owner paid to have the infrastructure extended.
Chuck Marohn stated that the Planning Commission has studied zoning
alternatives along the Highway 371 alternate alignment.
