PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 2, 2009 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 28 members were
present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by Rickard,
second by Wendt, motion passed.
Truck and equipment checks were discussed. The floating pump was not on Tanker 1
because it is leaking oil. All three tankers checked OK. Tanker 2's pump engine needs an
oil change. Grass 1 and 2 were also OK. Grass 1 was over one McLeod tool. All of the
remainder trucks were all good. Engine 1 was over one 2 % "by 1 '/z "reducer.
The financial report was discussed. Our checking balance tonight is $13,000.79. During
the past month, we deposited $210.00 from the police department for the 30 people they
sent to our pancake breakfast, $1761.00 from the chokecherry breakfast, $49.00 for the
scholarship fund from the chokecherry breakfast, $100.00 from a donation from Art and
Joanne Weaver, and $18.00 from Dan Loven for leftover pancake breakfast food. We paid
bills for $1260.26 for the double convection oven, $14.37 for ice for the chokecherry
breakfast, $51.30 for pop, $50.00 for repair for the electrical connection for the oven,
$64.75 for chokecherry syrup, and $590.50 for chokecherry food supplies. Our scholarship
fund balance is $1603.65. The chokecherry breakfast had revenue of $811.00 and expenses
of $669.62. Our profit was $141.38. There were some minor bills for the breakfast not
recorded yet. The fire fund balance is approximately $122,000 at this time. Mike Peterson
motioned to approve the financial report, second by Evenson, motion passed.
Dan Loven motioned we transfer $200.00 from our pancake breakfast profits to the
scholarship fund, second by Selter, motion passed. Our new scholarship fund balance will
be $1803.65.
Correspondence for tonight was a delayed e-mail from Jim Fruth about the advertising for
the chokecherry event. Nancy Vogt from the Echo staff did not publish any information
about the firemen's breakfast because she was not informed about it. There was
information about the breakfast on the Chamber and the Chokecherry festival websites.
There seemed to be no excuse for Nancy not to publicize the event. We were not happy
with the advertising of the event. If we decide to do the breakfast next year, we need better
advertising, more planning, and more communication with the Chokecherry committee.
After some discussion Putnam motioned we do the breakfast next year, second by Zeimet,
motion passed. A possible date for the event was August 9`h.
Flue shots will be given at City Hall on September 30 from 2:00 to 2:30 pm. The shots will
also be given at the middle school library from 3:30 TO 6:00pm on that same day. Shots
will be free for city employees. Please sign up for the vaccination in advance at the Clerk's
office. Tom will check to make sure fire fighters are able to qualify as city employees.
The safety topic tonight is about the dryer fire call we had today. There were some air
masks used today that did not have the straps loose and masks ready for use. Remember
when you return from a fire call and masks were used to loosen all the straps on the ask
and on the pack.
