Adopted: 8/4/2009 <br />City of Pequot Lakes <br />Job Description <br />Job Title: Police Sergeant <br />Department: Police Department <br />Supervisor: Chief of Police <br />Positions Supervised: Patrol Personnel <br />Position Summary: <br />Performs responsible supervisory police work in directing patrol activities on an assigned shift, <br />performing various administrative duties as assigned; and performs related duties as required or <br />apparent. Works under the general and technical supervision of the Police Chief. <br />Job Duties: <br />1. Supervisory Duties <br />A. Supervises work of patrol personnel to ensure conformance with established standards of <br />performance, accuracy of written reports and general operational effectiveness; <br />recommends disciplinary action, evaluates personnel and processes grievances. <br />B. Performs timekeeping, scheduling, temporary reassignment and related duties for all <br />patrol personnel and shifts; evaluates the work of patrol personnel. <br />C. Instructs subordinates in the proper use of police equipment; participates in training new <br />personnel; provides technical guidance to subordinates. <br />2. Dailey Patrol Duties <br />A. Patrols the community to enforce laws, detect and prevent crime, provide traffic control <br />and protect life and property. <br />B. Apprehends and arrests law violators, prepares written reports of crimes, and assists in <br />the prosecution of law violators. <br />C. Collects and preserves evidence and takes pictures of crime scenes. <br />D. Enforces traffic laws, operates radar, and writes violations; enforces snowmobile and <br />ATV laws within the jurisdiction of the department. <br />E. Responds to accident and fire scenes; initiates investigations; administers first aid until <br />more qualified personnel arrive on the scene; directs traffic flow; and assists with the <br />transport of patients, if needed. <br />F.
