PEQUOT LAKES FIItE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 5, 2009 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 26 members
were present.
Kevin Merschman attended our meeting to speak about Crow Wing County's active
shooter training program. They have the only program in the entire area. Kevin's main
involvement is with Eagle View Elementary School which is in Breezy Point. He is
asking us to help with any possible incidents which could be possible any where.
The main policy of the active shooter program is to take out the shooter as soon as
possible. The average time of a possible shooting is seven minutes. The police would
need our help to block roads in the perimeter areas of an incident. In the case of Eagle
View, we would be needed to block Nickel Road and Crow Wing County Road 11 in
both directions. The first ' /z hour after an incident is critical. The present plan would be to
send all parents to Breezy Point Public Safety Building for a Breezy Point incident or to
Pequot Lakes City Hall for a Pequot Lakes incident.
He also was promoting the "Wills for Heroes" program to be held Saturday, September
12a' from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Brainerd Fire Hall. Any one interested must make an
appointment. It is free for fire fighters and spouses.
