Wildlife Trail Road Status — October, 2020
Wildlife Trail residents previously requested services from the City in 2017
>Council opted to not offer services or take on the maintenance responsibilities
- potential precedent(24 total private roads at the time)
- not up to required standards
Recently, Mike Czech,on behalf of several neighbors on his road, has again inquired about the
potential for the City to be able to help remove snow off of Wildlife Trail. He offered that they would
even be willing to pay for the service if need be. I offered to do some investigation on the potential
and communicate the request to the Council at this meeting.
>the residents have made significant investments in road improvements in gravel, bed depth,
drainage, and grading (crowning%)
> It now appears to meet the City's Rustic Road standards in all of the following:
1) minimum of 4" Class 5 Base>it has a 5"Class 1 ease
2) 66' Riht of Way& Platted >it has a 66-67'ROW& is Platted
3) 9' lanes>it has an average of 18.58'total width
Mike had previously(2017) provided the additional information to Council:
>Wildlife Estates- platted in 1979 & designated for public use at in the Plat Drawing and text
>Wildlife Trail -same designation for Public Use in the Abstract Title
>Wildlife Trail provide Primary Traffic Access for abutting properties
>Wildlife Trail lies within city limits
> Fits the city classification for Street Classification from our City Code
> In several ways,Wildlife Trail is equivalent to or exceeds construction standards on nearby
Sluetter Road. (bed depth,width, drainage,crown/grading)
• My field observation and research of what is available and presented confirms existing
widths, base depth, ROW, Drainage, Condition all meet our street specifications.
• Our staff are already working in close proximity to the road and could feasibly add the
road (0.65 miles)to our required duties if adopted as a public road.
• I'd recommend the city provide services to the road only if it is made public. That way
all our street and city ordinance apply and protect our staff and the city. It would then
be uniform with all our other street responsibilities or the city could risk a double
standard to other private roads without services offered and a perceived competition
also to local snow removal companies.
