approving work; and recommending staff levels, rewarding, disciplining, <br />suspension and dismissal of employees. <br />2. Works at Creating Positive Community Relations. <br />A. Makes public presentations at schools and community functions, acts as primary <br />spokesperson for Police Department. <br />B. Answers citizens' requests for information including directions, regulations, <br />ordinances, and where to obtain additional information. <br />C. Receives complaints and takes appropriate follow -up action and advises of <br />results; oversees the recording of all events in daily log; reviews daily reports and <br />the log to determine activity in the community and potential problems. <br />3. Cooperate with other public agencies, communities in support of law enforcement <br />efforts. <br />A. Conducts or oversees investigation of crime and accidents; works jointly with <br />county agencies in child abuse and welfare cases. <br />B. Conducts internal investigations of any complaints against department staff. <br />C. Assists other agencies such as the county, area communities, federal and the State <br />Highway Patrol in mutual aid efforts including local, County, State and federal <br />agencies as needed. <br />D. Oversees processing of complaints regarding closing of late night liquor <br />establishments to ensure correct closing time and to prevent potential problems. <br />F. Approves permits for buying and carrying handguns after running background <br />check on purchaser; approves handicap permits. <br />G. Meets and/or maintains contact with county sheriffs office and other law <br />enforcement agencies to obtain information on stolen vehicles, crimes in area, <br />electronic and police radio information. <br />H. Attends regional chief of police meetings; attends county attorney and council <br />meetings as needed. <br />4. Establishes, supervises and oversees policies, procedures, standards, and practices <br />for the department; develops appropriate and attainable goals. <br />A. Determines equipment needs and obtains cost estimates to stay within budget. <br />1%.1 B.
