ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br />�-- MINUTES <br />MAY 19, 2009 <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Ed Larsen, Patrick Smith, Cindy Reich, Justin Bolz- Andolshek <br />and Mark Jurchen <br />ALSO PRESENT: Mayor Nancy Adams; Sheila Haverkamp, BLADC; Ruth Ann <br />Hanson, Chamber; Sheila Holley, Realtor Advisor; Adeel Ahmud; <br />University of Minnesota Extension Service; Dawn Bittner, Zoning <br />Administrator; and Sandy Peine, City Clerk <br />Call Meeting to Order <br />The meeting was called to order by Chair Larsen at 8:00 a.m. <br />2. Consider EDC Minutes <br />MOTION BY MARK JURCHEN AND SECONDED BY PATRICK SMITH <br />TO APPROVE THE APRIL 21, 2009 EDC MINUTES. MOTION CARRIED <br />5 -0. <br />\.,. 3. Sheila Holley — EDC Realtor Advisory <br />Ed Larsen introduced Sheila Holley as the new Realtor Advisor to the Economic <br />Development Commission. <br />4. Adeel Ahmed — MN Extension <br />Sheila Haverkamp introduced Adeel Ahmed. She noted that Adeel is an educator <br />with the University of Minnesota Extension program. <br />Mr. Ahmed explained some of the programs offered by the University which <br />revolve around economic development. Mr. Ahmud talked about the Community <br />Visitors Business Expansion Program. He noted that this programs instructs <br />community members to do business expansion programs which creates good will <br />between community members and businesses. <br />Another program that was discussed was the Market Area Profile Program. This <br />program works with demographics to determine types of customers so that a <br />marketing strategy can be developed for the City. There is software available for <br />this program. The program also determines the types of people that are coming to <br />the community and identifies gaps in the retail business. <br />Discussion was held by the EDC regarding how to determine who is actually <br />buying product from the retailers; local residents or vacationers. It was suggested <br />a market analysis may help to answer this question. Commissioner Smith stated <br />
