Pequot Lakes
December 30, 2008
■ Possible Wastewater Treatment Facility Changes and/or Upgrades
We have worked with the City in the past on various projects related to your wastewater
treatment facility. As time goes on, and as the spray irrigation land becomes more
valuable for other uses, it is important that the City looks ahead at how to continue
efficiently treating and disposing of wastewater.
An upgrade to any treatment facility is not a quick process. In the past,WSN has
presented a proposal to the City for a Facility Plan that would meet regulatory
requirements on looking at possible upgrades. We will continue to work with the City and
be sensitive to its financial concerns on the best timing for undertaking such a project.
■ Capital Improvements Plan
While usually the costliest single item a Council deals with, infrastructure is an
investment that provides long-term benefits for the community. Cities that tend to be the
"healthiest"are those that understand that infrastructure is the backbone to a thriving
City. These Cities plan their improvements and then implement them in a thought out,
financially prudent manner. Pequot Lakes City staff have put together lists in the past of
improvements. We want to be available to assist the City in planning and implementing
those needed improvements.
■ Infrastructure Workshop
In lieu of trying to address a public improvement issue from a reactive position,we like to
periodically sit down with the Council in a workshop setting. We have done this in the
past with the Council and offer to do this with them again, no charge,on either Tuesday
night, January 13,2009 or Tuesday night,January 20, 2009.
In addition to the engineering services we provide to the City,we offer land surveying,
architecture, and environmental services. Please don't hesitate to call one of us should you have
the need for these professional services.
It has been a pleasure working with the City of Pequot Lakes and we look forward to being of
service to you in 2009.
Sincerely,
WIDSETH SMITH NOLTING&ASSOCIATES,INC.
 AA ( ail
Timothy oule, PE Michael Rude,PE
Civil Engineer,Vice President Civil Engineer
M.\YearendLetters\2009Reappointment(Dec.2008)\Letters\Pequot Lakes.doc
