Municipal Consent Public Hearing Written Comments
November 16, 2010, Addendum to Council Minutes
Page 6 of 33
cily gn=ore, that's why they call it a `bypass'. I am sorry but that simple does
not sound like a brilliant idea to me.
19. William Wortham — 8393 Hidden Creek Ct., Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
I believe it is in the best interest of the future development of Pequot Lakes and its
residents for the expansion of Highway 371 to follow the by -pass route. It affects
fewer residents directly and is more cost effective.
20. William Wortham — Landowner (Sibley Acres), Pequot Lakes, MN
I support the by -pass route in that it will cost the residents less, directly affect
fewer land and business owners, and not destroy our City park area.
21. S. Wortham — 8393 Hidden Creek Ct. — Landowner in Pequot Lakes
I vote again for the by -pass for Pequot. Have you considered what a 4 -lane
highway through Pequot will look like? Most of your lovely City Park will be
gone; along with those beautiful evergreen trees that lines the road into town. That
"up North" feeling is what people like, and the reason they want to live here — a
small town.
22. J. D. Shubert, 8271 Hidden Creek Ct., Pequot Lakes, MN
Considering only safety, the through town route creates increased danger for both
pedestrians and vehicles. Of real concern is the foot and bus traffic to and from
the school. And an issue which has been largely ignored by the "through -town
advocates" is the impact on businesses and institutions along the 2 mile stretch of
371 South of Pequot. Not only will some of these locations lose property, but
those businesses will lose access from the highway. This will require construction
of an expensive 2 mile backage road on the west side. Access to locations on the
east would be from a mile -long backage road located east of the Paul Bunyan
trail. The potential danger on the east is for hundreds of vehicles each week
crossing the trail and having to contend with bicyclists, pedestrians, and
snowmobiles. BY ALL MEANS, KEEP THE BY -PASS ROUTE.
23. David E. Clark — 30892 S. Heath Street, Pequot Lakes, MN
I have seen the proposed plans for the Highway 371 `Bypass" around the City of
Pequot. I believe this is the most beneficial routing for the town and travelers. It
would relieve traffic congestion at the present intersection of Highway 371 and
County Road 11 and make it safer for children and pedestrians especially the
elderly. Please take into consideration the everyday wants and welfare of the local
citizens and not just the convenience for travelers. We live here every day year to
year. Please don't ruin our town. Thank you.
24. Bryan Canniff — The Canniff Family Farm — Pequot Lakes, MN --
