M
Municipal Consent Public Hearing Written Comments
November 16, 2010, Addendum to Council Minutes
Page 5 of 33
"CON" is the cost. When we are all trying to reduce our taxes to be able to house
and feed our families, the government continues to spend freely on basically un-
needed projects.
15. Tom Guerin — 9027 Grant, Brookfield, IL 60513
The bypass looks perfect to me. As a seasonal resident I am of the belief that we
all come up to the northern lakes to get away from it all (like noise, over building,
strip malls, crowds, McDonalds and other chain stores). Do you get my point?
City -style progress can stay in the cities. May family will vote for the bypass. My
family has been on Sibley for 50 years. We like quiet.
16. John and Barb Lvnskev — 27475 Countv Road 107, Peauot Lakes, MN
We strongly favor the current bypass alternative for many reasons. Two of the
most important reasons are as follows:
• Safety — A through -town route will have few crossing points and young
people in particular will try to run through fast traffic.
• Convenience — The only stop and go lights for a through -town route will
have long discouraging waits to cross over and shop on both sides of
our downtown district.
`-- 17. Larry and Nancy Greden — 5798 Sibley Lake Road, Peauot Lakes, MN and
18238 County Road 28, Altura, MN 55910
We support the Bypass 100 %. Reasons: 1) Safety traveling about town for
supplies, and 2) Noise pollution — on Sibley Lake from the present highway when
fishing. And 3) Loss of green space in town — priceless.
18. Brian Laudenbach — Oasis, Peauot Lakes, MN
As the owner of the Oasis Mall and operator of Oasis Liquor and Speedstop Gas
and Goods I want to go on record officially opposing the bypass. I like most every
business in town see this as a major detriment to the business sector of Pequot
Lakes. How can one not? No one in their right mind can look at a local business
owner and say this won't affect them in a negative way. It is Business 101 in its
simplest form; less traffic directly in front of our business means less business.
I understand our battle is lost but it gives me peace of mind knowing that my
words are being documented somewhere in the city books. Because fact of the
matter is, years down the road when the bypass is completed and the traffic
diverted the local business WILL suffer and at least I stood up and spoke on
behalf of them.
This bypass will also divert attention to what I see as one of the cutest little towns
in northern MN and guess what, traffic heading north of our city won't see the
