EDC Minutes
October 16, 2018
-----------------------------
4. Broadband/Fiber Optic Update
Chair Jurchen stated that we need to support fiber to library because it
could be a great resource center for the community.
Mayor Adams stated the Pequot Lakes Library is doing strategic planning
to be more integrated into the community. Spectrum has not responded
and fiber will need to come from TDS.
5. Peauot Lakes Business Park Infill Educational Plan
Tommy Woog explained City Staff, Tim Houle and himself inet prior to this
meeting to review the as built for the water and wastewater in the existing
Business Park as it relates to possible subdivision of existing lots. There
are potentially 10 to 15 additional lots that could be available. This would
increase tax base, as well as employment. It is important to maximize the
infrastructure already in place, rather than put more pipe in the ground.
The increased tax base could support the expansion of the Heart of the
Good Life Development.
Sheila Haverkamp suggested the City could be proactive, do the
subdivision, put in the water and wastewater connections, and buy back
the lots.
Chair Jurchen stated the committee needs to get together and crunch
some numbers as far as tax revenue versus what could be spent, what
kind of incentives could be offered within the next 60 days and formalize a
plan to get this information out to the public.
Ms. Haverkamp stated the City needs to be cognizant to the needs of
future business owners when it comes to the size of lot they actually need.
Chair Jurchen suggested including Ms. Haverkamp in the committee
meeting. Mr. Woog suggested also including the City Planner.
Commissioner Lindholm stated we don't exactly want to create a policy,
but to offer options for City Staff when they are approached about this
infill.
Commissioner Holley stated most people looking for a commercial lot
have the following questions:
• What can I do with the lot?
• What can't I do with the lot?
