City Council Minutes <br />October 5, 2010 <br />Page 11 of 12 <br />------------------------- - - - - -- <br />Katie Braam, First Responder, addressed the Council regarding <br />equipment needs for the First Responders. She noted that the Council has <br />donated $3,000 per year for the past three years to the First Responders. <br />She stated that the First Responders are requesting donations once again <br />to help with the purchase of pagers, airways, and radios. <br />COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL MOVED TO DONATE $3,000 TO THE <br />FIRST RESPONDERS FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENCY FUND <br />FOR 2011. COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN SECONDED THE MOTION. <br />MOTION CARRIED 5 -0. <br />11.1. Cable Franchise Distribution Fee <br />The Clerk explained that the Cable Commission recently issued a <br />distribution to the City of Pequot Lakes for $6,000. The last distribution <br />that the City received was in 2009 for approximately $4,000 of which the <br />Council authorized to be dedicated to broadcasting Council meetings at a <br />future date. The Clerk stated that if the Council wants to continue saving <br />for broadcasting meetings in the future, the $6,000 could be added to the <br />existing Capital Outlay Carryover funds being saved for this purpose. <br />Council Member Ryan presented a proposal from Birchdale Fire and <br />Security. <br />Mayor Adams stated that many people don't have cable and questioned if <br />it would be a better use of the money to provide a newsletter. Discussion <br />was held regarding having the video of the Council meetings on the City's <br />web site. The Council indicated its concern about getting system that is of <br />good quality. <br />COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD MOVED TO DESIGNATE THE $6,000 <br />TO CAPITAL OUTLAY CARRYOVER FOR FUTURE CABLE TV <br />PLAYBACK OF COUNCIL MEETINGS AND TO CONTINUE TO <br />RESEARCH THE ISSUE. COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL SECONDED <br />THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5 -0. <br />Mayor Adams stated that if the cost is over $5,000, we will need two bids <br />according to City policy. Council Member Ryan stated that he would do <br />further research on the issue. <br />11.2. Approve Certain Vendors for Early Claim Payment <br />The Clerk requested the Council to approve certain vendors for early claim <br />payment. <br />
