The sight restriction was measured by the time period(gap) between seeing an approaching vehicle and that <br /> vehicle entering the intersection. Drivers select an acceptable gap in which to cross the roadway. Research <br /> shows the 50th percentile gap selection(gap at which 50 percent of drivers will accept and enter the <br /> intersection) is 6.5 seconds and 85th percentile gap selection is 8.25 secondsl. <br /> Gap data was collected from TH 371 at CSAH 29/Wilderness Rd in four different locations (see Figure 4).The <br /> referenced locations in the figure correspond with the Gap Collection Locations shown in Table 1.The minimum <br /> observed gap(8.19 seconds) and smallest average observed gap(10.02 seconds)occurred for eastbound CSAH <br /> 29 looking to the north for southbound TH 371 vehicles(Location 1).
