EDC Minutes
July 17, 2018
-----------------------------
Commissioner Lindholm suggested adding the regional population along
with the city population. Discussion ensued regarding area population,
population forecasting and housing studies.
b. Utilities 8 Roadway Extensions Study
Chad Connor presented the draft map showing a projected layout of the
Heart of the Good Life Development including proposed roadway, utilities,
lot lines and preliminary estimated costs.
Chair Jurchen asked if the DNR had been contacted yet. Mr. Connor
replied they had been contacted and shown the map early on and will be
contacted again once the development is closer to the final stages.
c. Shovel Ready Certification
Chad Connor presented a packet from Widseth Smith Nolting showing the
processes and estimated costs involved with shovel ready certification.
Mr. Connor stated there is an application cost of approximately $2,000
that is not included in the packet and the application process would take
approximately 45 days to complete.
Tyler Glynn added there are about 35 shovel ready certification site
locations in Minnesota.
Nancy Malecha recommended moving forward with the certification
process and the video if the Economic Development Commission gives
the recommendation to the City Council for approval. Ms. Malecha added
there is approximately $300,000 in the Business Park Fund that can be
utilized for these costs.
d. Video
Brady Bussler stated the main goal of the video should be to get people's
attention, get them excited about the development opportunity by giving
visuals of what it can be and give them information on how to contact
someone for more information on the development. Mr. Bussler added
the video should state how great Pequot Lakes and the development are
by including information such as the close proximity to State Highway 371
and the Paul Bunyan Trail.
Commissioner Lindholm inquired who would own this video. Mr. Bussler
stated the City of Pequot Lakes would own the video and that should be
spelled out in the contract.
