Park Commission Minutes
March 11, 2010
Page 2
Jamie DenHartog stated that the park may be too constricted to add a
playground. Mayor Adams stated she would contact MnDOT and ask if the
City could use some of their right -of -way for the playground. It was the
consensus of the Park Commission that the Committee will consist of the
following:
Everett Johnson, Pete Clement, Chamber Representative, Mayor Adams,
and someone from the Business Community.
The Park Commission decided that the committee would meet after Mayor
Adams has had a chance to speak to MnDOT about the right -of -way.
Sam Salfisberg to come to the next meeting with a design for the gazebo.
5. Playground Equipment Plan for Gildner Park
Chair Tweed stated that the Park Commission has decided to build the
playground equipment for Gildner Park. The equipment will be made from
wood as the Park Commission wants it to look rustic so as to fit in with the
wooded area.
It was the consensus of the Park Commission to review and choose the
playground equipment for Gildner Park, and to decide who will build the
equipment. Pete Clement suggested that the Commission contact Home
Depot regarding a donation of materials for the playground equipment.
6. Chokecherry Trees
The Clerk distributed a letter from the Mayor to the Governor requesting
that Pequot Lakes be named the Chokecherry Capitol of Minnesota. She
noted that she will request a recognition letter from the Governor. She
further suggested that the City Council pass a Proclamation proclaiming
the City to be the Chokecherry Capitol of Minnesota.
Discussion was held regarding the trees. Cathy Malecha stated that 350
trees have been ordered at $2.00 each. She stated that the City would sell
the trees for $10.00 each. The purpose is to raise some money for the
playground equipment and to make the City more attractive. Cathy
suggested a map of the downtown to decide where the trees could be
planted. It was suggested that the City advertise for the sale of the trees
by placing a flyer in the utility bills and by informing the Business Connect
group.
7. Park Brochures
