PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT
MINUTES OF THE MARCH 3, 2010 MEETING
The monthly meeting of the PLFD was called to order by Chief Nelson, 28, members
were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved by a motion by
Loven, second by Mike Peterson, motion passed.
Truck and equipment checks were discussed. Engine 1 and 2, Rescue 2, Tanker 3, Water
tender 1, Grass 1, and the ATV and trailer were all good. Engine 1 was missing the gas
monitor, which was found. Rescue 2 was missing a chainsaw chain, which is being
sharpened. Tanker 1 was missing a 4 %Z "by 4 "storz 45 degree adapter and the floating
portable pump is out of service. Tanker 2's portable pump has a cracked pump housing
and is out of service. A new generator is on order for the tender. The chipped fan blade
on Engine 2 has been chipped for a long time.
The financial report is our new checking balance tonight is $6304.43, which includes the
scholarship fund balance of $1803.65. During the month we paid $300.00 for two used
sirens, paid 32.51 for a 50 pound bag of popcorn, a gallon of oil, and a case of bags, paid
91.76 for pop, paid 3.98 for a pizza cutter and petroleum jelly, paid 40.43 for pizzas and
chips, and paid 205.75 for 25 frozen pizzas from Mickeys. Five fire fighters owe the
department $152.75 for sweat and tee shirts. The purchase of the 25 pizzas was not voted
and approved before the purchase. The pizzas are for department members use when
needing some food. The sirens were purchased from a Crosslake fire fighter. Mike
Peterson motioned to approve the financial report, second by Tasha, motion passed.
The safety topic was a discussion of the fire alarm fire call to Little People day care in
Breezy Point. All the children were evacuated from the building upon our arrival. They
were allowed to return inside as soon as the facility was checked out. We found a frozen
roof vent, but no sign of any other safety issue. The Baptist Church fire was contained to
the pastor's office. The fire was started from a burning candle on top of a radio which
was under a book shelf filled with books. We did a good job containing the fire and
preventing the rest of the structure from significant smoke damage. All church fires in
Minnesota must be reported to the fire marshal. He was satisfied with our reporting the
cause and did not make an actual inspection. Any suspicious church fire in Minnesota
must be also reported to the ATE The Timber Jack Smokehouse fire call was for the
smoke house siding and roof on fire. It was called in by a passerby. Damage was
contained to the smoke house.
New style TGIF roof and floor trusses do not stand up to fires and usually fail within ten
minutes after a fire starts in a structure.
A tier II hazardous materials inventory report was received from Oasis Oil. Their
building in Jenkins contains gasoline, fuel oil and diesel fuel. We have also received
several other reports also.
