Background—
Chair Hallan stated it provides a history, but the phrase"any other single factor"is a
strong statement and feels the school district has as much to do with how the City is laid
out and its'history as MN/DOT. Reference to the trail being a well-worn path for
loggers is unnecessary.
Planning Commission Member Norton stated there are a lot of details included; do we
need to include from foot to horse, etc. Staff was directed to tighten up the Background
Section and include information when the school moved to its current location and
when Highway g1 moved to the Patriot Avenue location.
Planning Commission Member Leckband stated Sibley Township is mentioned, but the
annexation is not elcplained.
HIGHWAY 371—
Staff will provide a 2 paragraph narrative.
Planning Commission Member Birch asked if this will include the opportunities created
by the new alignment and stated the Economic Development Commission included
comments as well.
LOCAL ROADS AND STREETS —
Mr. Burslie stated the City is in the process of creating new road and street standards.
Chair Hallan pointed out that having the City take back Highway 37versus Crow Wing
County has allowed the City fleribility to modify the downtown area.
Planning Commission Member Birch asked if the Comprehensive Plan is the place to
consider the northbound traffic from the Industrial Park. Mr. Burslie state it would be a
general policy or statement. Planning Commission Member Birch was concerned with
the heavy truck#raffic on Rasmussen Road. This corridor is not an area to mix heavy
truck traffic with pedestrian traffic. Mr. Burslie stated we could include a statement to
be cognizant of heavy truck traffic in or near residential areas and how those streets and
roads are laid out.
Chair Hallan stated that a policy should state to designate a truck route to County Road
ii and Highway 371 from the Industrial Park avoiding residential areas.
POLICIES —
Mr. Burslie read through each Policy.
ACTIONS —
One action item was to provide storage lockers for roller blades. It was the consensus
that this was not necessary to include.
MINUTES 2
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
March i5, 2oi8
