City Council Minutes <br />April 6, 2010 <br />Page 6 of 10 <br />-------------------------------- <br />THE MOTION DIED FOR LACK OF A SECOND. <br />Mayor Adams requested the Clerk to advertise for the position. <br />MAYOR ADAMS MOVED TO NOMINATE BILL HABEIN FOR <br />REAPPOINTMENT TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION FOR A THREE <br />YEAR TERM FROM 3112/2010 — 12/3112012. COUNCIL MEMBER <br />NAGEL SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5 -0. <br />It was the consensus of the Council that the vacant Planning Commission <br />seat would remain vacant until a new appointment is made. <br />7. Fire Chief Report <br />Report received by Council. <br />8. Police Chief Monthly Report <br />Report received by Council. <br />`1 8.1. Police School Liaison Contract <br />The Chief of Police presented the Police School Liaison Contract to the <br />Council for the year 2010 — 2011. He noted that there is a 3% increase <br />from the last contract. Mayor Adams stated that in the future she would <br />like to see the contract reflect the same percentage of raise that the police <br />officers receive. Council Member Ryan stated that the raise percentage <br />would not reflect the true cost as it does not reflect benefits. <br />MAYOR ADAMS MOVED TO APPROVE THE 2010 -2011 <br />POLICE /SCHOOL LIAISON CONTRACT. COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL <br />SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5 -0. <br />8.2. Sergeant Position <br />Chief Braam stated that he would like to create a Sergeant Position. He <br />explained that most police departments have a second in command. <br />Council discussion pursued about the timing of this position. Chief Braam <br />suggested that if the Council is not ready to make this decision now, <br />perhaps it could be delayed for a short time. He indicated that in that time <br />he would lay out guidelines and begin grooming those interested in <br />applying for a sergeant's position. <br />
