PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD <br />MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 27, 2010 MEETING <br />The annual meeting of the PLAFB was called to order by Chairman Peterson. Members <br />in attendance were Benson, Ryan, Littman, Weaver, Nelson, Peterson, and McNerney. <br />Also present was Craig Bartel from Poplar Township and Al Benson from Byron <br />Township. <br />The minutes of the last meeting were approved by a motion by Littman, second by <br />McNerney, motion passed. <br />The fourth quarter fire call report totaled 14 calls. By types, there were 9 good intent <br />calls, 2 structure fires, 2 assist police, and 1 motor vehicle accident/rescue. By location, <br />there were 9 to Pequot Lakes, 3 to Breezy Point, and 2 to Jenkins City. Last year the <br />department answered 13 calls during this time period. Total calls for 2008 were 57 and <br />the total for 2009 was 63. <br />The fourth quarter training report totaled 16 hours. By types there were 5 hours of safety <br />officer policies and duties, 5 hours of confined space, 3 hours of RIT team roof rescue <br />and ventilation, and 3 hours of ladder operation and ventilation procedures. <br />Fire bills sent during the fourth quarter were 3 that totaled $2000.00. <br />The fourth quarter financial report was reviewed. The capital outlay was over budget as <br />this was the purchase of the new hurst tool and cutter. The Narveson donation of <br />$10000.00 was used for this, so it was in line with the budget. The department spent 95% <br />of the 2009 budget. The 2010 budget was increased 7% over the 2009 budget. Chief <br />Nelson explained that he is attempting to build the capital outlay account for future <br />needs. Littman motioned to approve the financial report, second by Weaver, motion <br />passed., <br />The FEMA grant program for 2009 has not been awarded yet. There may be some grants <br />announced on January 29`x'. <br />A donation received during the quarter was $100.00 from Craig and Claire Nagel. <br />Fire Department officers for 2010 were Fire Chief, Tom Nelson; First Assistant Fire <br />Chief, Bill Rickard; Second Assistant Fire Chief, Dave Szymanski; Safety Officer, Scott <br />Warner; Captains, Neil Casanova, Larry Oaks, and Brian Evenson; and <br />Secretary/Treasurer Bob Peterson I. <br />Fire Department news during the quarter was the leased tanker truck was returned to the <br />DNR after several years of service. The department purchased 5 used air masks from the <br />Montrose Fire Department for $1750.00. Other purchases included a variable speed <br />electric exhaust fan, a little giant ladder, and a battery charger for station 2. Fire fighters <br />reviewed and trained on several safety topics during the quarter. The new fire department <br />office is in full operation. The department experienced 3 cold weather fire incidents in <br />
