reduced or some guidelines set up. A revolving loan fund could be included. Micro
`-- lending was discussed; Region Five is working on a micro lending plan.
Pequot Lakes Economic Development Organization should be changed to Brainerd Lakes
Area Development Corporation ( BLADC). The services BLADC provides should be
expanded.
The third Policy was discussed: Ensure a skilled and educated local workforce. The City
could encourage this, rather than ensure. A competitive school district is important in
attracting a skilled and educated workforce. The school system should be strong or
excellent, not just good. Threat of an aging population is underfunding education. The
City needs population diversity. This may fit in the Housing Section. The City could
impact education by exploring shared services with the school district, encourage safe
routes to school, ensure public recreational facilities and jobs for youth.
The forth Policy was discussed: Provide appropriate housing options for the local
workforce. The City could encourage the Housing and Redevelopment Authority to
build starter homes.
The Policies need to address where future commercial development is going to be
allowed, such as Business Park expansion and areas for potential manufacturers.
\., PUBLIC HEARING:
APPLICANT: John Murphy
Applicant requests a Variance to Construct in Bluff Setback and Lake Setback.
Mr. Marohn explained the Staff Report. The shed is being removed and is
approximately 100 sq. ft. The sun room could be moved back so it isn't encroaching as
much, possibly 3 feet.
Egress windows would be added within the bluff setback. The plan does not agree with
the elevations. The bluff is being cut down. Mr. Marohn stated that the window wells
would not be a grading issue; a visual walkout would be an issue.
Minutes 2
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
February 18, 2010
