Economic Development Commission Minutes <br /> December 19,2017 <br /> Page 2 of 5 <br /> ----------------------------------------------------------- <br /> EDC member has been assigned 25 businesses to conta.ct. The goal is to get feedback I <br /> by the end of January so Mr. Coleman and the Blandin Foundation have time to enter <br /> the data.. If the EDC members use a paper copy, she asked them to enter the I <br /> information into Survey Monkey. Mr. Coleman sta.ted a meeting will need to be , <br /> scheduled to review the survey results. <br /> c. Business Directory List—Assignment of Duties <br /> Nancy Malecha stated the spreadsheet included in the meeting materials assigned <br /> each EDC member the businesses to contact. The list is color-coded with a key in the <br /> upper right hand corner. <br /> 4. Potential Development South of Business Park <br /> Chair Jurchen sta.ted he verified that both Essentia and Crosby medical centers are <br /> non-profit. If they make application,they pay no properiy taaces resulting in no <br /> increase in tax base. <br /> Commissioner Holley stated she is working with someone for a call center for the <br /> area south of Derksen Road. <br /> Chair Jurchen stated he has been contacted rega.rding referrals on expanding <br /> businesses. He will need to find out what they are looking for—infill or expansion. <br /> Bob Perkins stated there are maybe 3 businesses in the Park now on fiber. The <br /> School Bus Garage has been added. <br /> When asked,Mr. Burslie stated the Planning Commission has not discussed <br /> development of this area.. Residential use would not be the best use. The Planning <br /> Commission ta.kes direction from the Council and the Council has not directed us to <br /> explore that. <br /> Chair Jurchen pointed out Council Member Pederson's concern with the new <br /> maintenance garage being built in this location and it being visible from the highway. <br /> Nancy Malecha stated tha.t the maintenance building is out for bids and that the <br /> majority of the Council is in favor of placing it there. Mayor Adams stated the rest of <br /> the Council is in consensus to do major landscaping to make it appealing. <br /> Commissioner Clement staxed is says something for our City to make a maintenance <br /> building look good. <br /> Commissioner Lindholm stated the initial sketches for the ballfields was <br /> approximately 20 acres at the bottom of the triangle. If the Council is entertaining <br /> this recreation area, we need to involve people who design ballfields, etc. Twenty to <br /> 30 acres may be realistic for 4 fields, soccer and parking. There is an advantage to <br /> have attractive schools when people are selecting a community to move to. There <br /> would be a positive visual effect driving by on the highway with the lights on while a <br /> game is going on. It is a fair economic development argument that recreation space is <br />
