The bid opening was held for the property insurance. There were 2 bids received:
'en Jarcho $23,900
American Family $37,411
Ken Jarcho is our existing agent, but Midwest Family Mutual is our current company. The board decided to
have Mark Jurchen our agent of record with Midwest so he could pull our renewal and get the new rates (with
our changes).
Open Forum
Larry Parker from Parkview ONE asked about the insurance requirement for Deb Schmidt. Deb Schmidt was
not at the meeting. It was explained by Chairman Peterson that during a review of our insurance policies it was
brought to the boards attention that there exists a potential liability for the HRA if our contractors are not
carrying insurance. The Independent Contractors Policy was passed at the September, 2009 meeting to address
this risk. Chairman Peterson also re- iterated that this policy was being enforced on all contractors without
exception.
Director O'Brien asked the board to extend the deadline for Deb Schmidt to comply with the Insurance
requirement until January 31, 2010 in order to give staff time to review the rate increase that was proposed, and
draft the appropriate contracts. M/Marckwick S/Nagel. All ayes motion carried.
Deb Botham (Sibley Terrace Resident) asked what the procedure is for reporting that someone is making money
that they are not reporting to the office. She asked how this could be handled anonymously. Director O'Brien
informed her that anyone could send a note to the office if they wished to remain anonymous and the office
could follow on any information that was provided. The Director also stated that there are several systems in
place to double check the information that people provide on their re- certification paperwork, but that things
can be missed.
Deb Botham (Sibley Terrace Resident) asked why she was not allowed to have a `yard sale' by the previous
management when she first moved in, but there is a resident being allowed to run a business out of their
apartment. She did not provide any specific information about the resident whom she believed was running a
business out of their apartment. She asked about what the requirements were for home businesses. Director
O'Brien will bring information on this to the January meeting.
Mayor Adams informed everyone that there was a new business in town serving a Hawaiian/Tuscany
breakfast and lunch. She also stated that the Super Value was slated to open by Fishing Opener, and that
McDonalds was NOT coming to town, but that there was another restaurant looking at coming to town.
Delores Rager (Sibley Terrace Resident) commented on the Cities recently adopted budget stating that
she read through it and really liked it and thought they did a good job. Mayor Adams said that it was a
`tight' budget and that they are hoping that nothing unexpected comes up.
Chairman Peterson recognized Clair Nagel's service to the HRA, noting that this is her last meeting as a
Commissioner. She was thanked for her service.
Meeting adjourned at 5:35.PM.
Chrm Sec.
