Economic Development Commission Minutes <br /> October 17, 2017 <br /> Page 2 of 4 <br /> ----------------------------------------------------------- <br /> Questions to be included on the Needs Assessment should include: <br /> • What services do businesses have today? <br /> • Is it adequate? <br /> • Do you have plans to expand your marketing efforts or need higher speed <br /> internet? <br /> • Would you consider higher speed internet if it is cost effective and available? <br /> Mayor Adams pointed out that the Grow Zone may not have the available space for a <br /> large business. The Grow Zone may need to be expanded to be effective. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding development of the property south of the Business Park. <br /> Large companies, such as the Growth Zone located in Nisswa who may be <br /> outgrowing their current location. <br /> It was the consensus of the EDC to move forward with the questions above for the <br /> Needs Assessment and to partner with Chris Monroe, Chamber Director. Bob <br /> Perkins will see if TDS has any type of questionnaire that would provide additional <br /> questions. Sheila Haverkamp will reach out to Bill Coleman. <br /> Council Member Pederson sta.ted the Comprehensive Plan is a living and breathing <br /> document that changes. Statements from 2008 or 2013 may no longer be accurate. <br /> This section may need to be reviewed. <br /> Sheila Haverkamp noted eazlier that marketing of the Business Park as it relates to the <br /> telecom infrastructure was mentioned. She needs additional feedback and needs ta <br /> understand what the expectations are. Commissioner Lindholm stated there has been <br /> discussion for the vacant land, such as some type of campus or housing. Council <br /> Member Pederson stated the City needs to look to visionary type people, such as <br /> Charles Marohn. The visionaries need to come to the table. It was the consensus of <br /> the EDC to include this discussion on the November EDC Agenda. The EDC, <br /> Housing and Planning and Zoning may need to hold a workshop. <br /> November Agenda items: <br /> • Update on Broadband/Fiber Optic Needs Assessment; <br /> • In-depth discussion relating to Business Park vision. <br /> 4. 2018 Project Priorities <br /> a. Review Economic Development section of City Comprehensive Plan <br /> This discussion was included in the above Agenda item. <br /> b. Integrate into project priorities <br /> 1. Broadband/Fiber Optic Needs Assessment for Business Sector; <br /> 2. Develop conceptual plan for the Business Park; <br />
