MEETING OF THE PEQUOT LAKES ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION TUESDAY,AUGUST 15,2017 PEQUOT LAKES CITY HALL Members Present: Chair Jurchen, Commissioners Holley, Lindholm, Lubke, and Rieck Members Absent: Commissioner Sjoblad Others Present: Nancy Malecha, City Administratar/Clerk,Dawn Bittner,Zoning Specialist; and Nancy Adams, Mayor 1. Call Meeting to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Jurchen at 8:03 a.m. 2. Approve EDC Minutes COMNIISSIONER HOLLEY MOVED TO APPROVE THE JULY 18,2017 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMNIISSION MINUTES. COMNIISSIONER RIECK SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. 3. Fiber O tip c Long Range Planning—Council Directive Discussion ensued whether the City should look at this as a local issue or as a regional issue; do we just look at the Business Park and our core downtown area or do we go regional extending fiber toward others areas such as the City of Breezy Point or Breezy Point Resort. The consensus of the Commissioners was to sit down with TDS, CTC and Region 5 to establish some type of joint powers agreement to accomplish what the region needs. Nancy Malecha will invite Bob Perkins from TDS, Kristi Westbrock from CTC and Cheryal Hills from Region 5 to the September EDC meeting. 4. Potential Development South of Business Park Chair Jurchen noted this should be a priority for next year and pointed out Sheila Haverkamp's email that outlined previous discussions for development in this area. One future use was to use part of it for ball fields for the school. The area is 85 acres. The school would need approximately 20 to 40 acres to build 4 ball fields and 2 soccer fields. It was the consensus of the group to contact our City Planner and WSN to attend the November EDC meeting to begin developing concepts. Members of the School Board may be interested in attending.
