City Council Minutes September 5, 2017 Page 3 of 10 ----------------------------- Council Member Swanson inquired who will be responsible for snowplowing the roads this winter before the roads are released in the spring. Mr. Howieson stated MnDOT will be plowing Patriot Avenue this winter but priority will be given to the new State Highway 371. MnDOT will again reimburse the City to plow the other miscellaneous side roads this winter until the release of the roads in the spring. 5.3 2018 Preliminary Levy Nancy Malecha informed the Council on the 2018 preliminary budgets and levies. The General Revenue Tax Levy equates ta$1,677,050 which is a 6.02% increase from 2017. The Tax Abatement L�vy equates to $16,015 which is a 3.95% increase from 2017. The HRA Special Levy equates to $38,250 which is a zero change from 2017. Council Member Pederson stated that he would like to see the Po(ice Department decrease their budget due to the loss of the police contract with Jenkins Township. The consensus of the Council agreed to direct the Police Department to reduce their 2018 preliminary budget by$20,000 due to the loss of the police contract with Jenkins Township. COUNCIL MEMBER LOUKOTA MOYED TO ADOPT RESOLUTION 17- 28 SETTING THE CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES PRELIMINARY 2018 TAX LEVIES WITH THE ADDITION OF A DIRECTIVE FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO REDUCE THEtR BUDGET BY$20,000. • GENERAL REVENUE PROPERTY TAX LEVY -$1,677,050 • TAX ABATEMENT LEVY-$16,015 � HRA SPECIAL LEVY -$38,250 COUNCIL MEMBER PEDERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. 5.4 Final Levy Meeting Date Set COUNCfL MEMBER LOUKOTA MOVED TO DISCUSS THE 2018 BUDGET AND PROPOSED FINAL LEVY AT THE DECEMBER 5, 2017 COUNCIL MEETING AT 6:30 P.M.
