PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD <br />`, MINUTES OF THE OCTOBER 26, 2011 MEETING <br />The quarterly meeting of the PLAFB was called to order by Chair Peterson. <br />Members attending were Bartels, Benson, Donovan, Dubay, Hart, Malecha, <br />McNerney, Nelson, Peterson, Rudberg, Sodd, and Weaver. <br />The minutes of the last meeting were not read. Donovan motioned to approve the <br />minutes from last meeting, second by McNerney, motion passed. <br />The third quarter fire call report totaled 26 calls. By types, there were 10 good <br />intent, 3 mutual aid structure, 3 structure fires, 3 medical assist, 3 police assist, 2 <br />motor vehicle accident/rescue, 1 gasoline leak, and 1 natural gas leak. Last year <br />during this time period there were 15 calls. <br />There were 6 fire bills sent that totaled $3800.00. <br />There were 11 hours of training completed during the third quarter. By types there <br />were 4 hours of fire hose testing, 3 hours flashover trailer, 2 hours fire incident <br />strategy, and 2 hours ventilation and positive pressure fire attack. <br />The financial report was discussed. Vehicle maintenance was over budget due to an <br />aging fleet. The medical part is for testing and physicals. Contract services are for <br />fire extinguisher maintenance and repair, software support, and janitorial duty. <br />Weaver motioned to approve the financial, second by Malecha, motion passed. <br />The department did not apply for the 2011 FEMA grant. We have applied for a <br />grant for training aids. <br />Fire department operations included a summer picnic in August, participating in <br />the 911 remembrance program at Breezy Point Resort on September 11 , <br />sponsoring the fire prevention program at Eagle View elementary school, hosting an <br />open house at the fire station for fire prevention week, participated in the <br />homecoming parade, and purchasing a new thermal imaging camera. The camera <br />purchase was funded by fire budget of $10,000, 1300.00 in donations from S. <br />Schmidt and the Sons of American Legion, and 450.00 from the fire department. We <br />also received a generous battery donation from the Duracell Company. We also will <br />be purchasing a two stage ram for our new more powerful hurst tool. The $4700.00 <br />cost will be funded by an Agstar grant for 2500.00 and 2200.00 from the fire <br />department. <br />A letter was received from a Maple Township resident about a $600.00 bill for a <br />garage fire. She did not call the fire department to her fire and did not want our <br />services. A passerby called to report her garage was on fire at 6:25 am on a <br />November day last year. The department responded and arrived at 6:40 am and <br />extinguished the fire using 4400 gallons of water and 5 gallons of fire suppression <br />foam. We were at the fire scene until 9:00 am and were back in service at 9:21. The <br />service time was approximately three hours. We billed the owner $500.00 for one <br />hour of service and 100.00 for five gallons of foam. The bill should have been for <br />
