Park Commission Minutes
August 10, 2017
Page 2
-------------------------
Commissioner Sjoblad contacted a Master Gardener who suggested the City
contact Crow Wing County Soil and Water for suggestions. There may be grants
available. One thing to keep in mind is volunteers to maintain the areas and
consistency in the maintenance long term.
Mayor Adams suggested contacting MN/DOT to see what they plant in their
roundabouts.
Chair Ronning explained the bobber made out of a propane tank at Lakes Gas.
The bobber could be placed in the middle of the roundabouts. Commissioner
Pearson had reservations regarding the scale; the size of the roundabout and the
bobber may look silly.
Mayor Adams had contacted Tim Leagjeld for input. He will think about it and
contact her with ideas.
It was the consensus of the Park Commission to pursue a plan with the bobber
tank.
Commissioner Graham noted there is a plateau at the interseetion of County
Road 168 and State Highway 371. tt is an eyesore and may need to be
landscaped.
6. Skate Park— Update
Mayor Adams explained the location for a temporary skate park would be on the
dead end street in front of the Chair at Bobber Park. The City's insurance agent
confirmed the equipment met city standards. The pavement is rough and may
need an overlay and a barrier may need to be placed along Patriot Avenue.
COMMISSIONER NAGEL MOVED TO SUPPORT THE TEMPORARY SKATE
PARK LOCATION ON THE STREET IN FRONT OF BOBBER PARK.
COMMISSIONER JURCHEN SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED
7-0.
7. Banners on County Ftoad 11 BridQe
Commissioner Nagel explained he had learned that decorations would not be
allowed on the bridge and city staff assumed that would include banners. It was
the consensus of the Park Commission that Nancy Malecha should contact Tony
Hughes to verify.
8. Garden at South End of Trailside Park
Mike Loven noted that the garden at the south end of Trailside Park was not
taken care of again this year; this has been an issue for the past 5 years.
