I
Children's Programs Report-Terri Grimes
The Summer Reading Program is well underway, with over one hundred
participants (and likely more still to join). Local daycares with the ability to
transport children to the events are participating in the program,as are some
independent families. The theme of the Summer Reading Program this year is "Build
a Better World," and events have included robotics with the Pequot Lakes High
School Robotics Club, "Build a Habitat"with the Pequot Lakes Eagles 4-H Club, the
Legacy program with"Z" Mistry, and others. More events are scheduled for July and
August. Looking ahead to nect year, the theme will be music, so Terri will be looking
for a variety of musical experiences for next summer's participants. Many thanks to
Terri for all of her work in making the library's children's programs the resounding
success they are each year!
Old Business '
Over the past six months, revisions to the Library's Policy Manual have been drafted
and the resulting document was sent out to all board members in advance of the
meeting.Tom made a motion to approve the revised Policy Manual, Kay seconded,
and the motion carried unanimously. The revised policies will now be forwarded on
to City Administrator and City Council.
New Business
The library is registered for Pequot's July 4Parade. Renee and Tom have
volunteered to drive/ride the float. Melissa will buy candy in advance of the event.
A suggestion was made to Nancy Adams to do a speaker/luncheon fundraising event
with Suzanne Congdon LeRoy. She wrote a book about her grandmother, Elisabeth
Congdon of Glensheen Mansion in Duluth. The idea would be to have Ms. LeRoy
speak and provide tea and bars, with tickets sold in advance for$10.After
discussion, the board unanimously agreed that this was not something we wish to
pursue as a fundraiser: volunteers and board members are not comfortable selling
tickets, the library does not particularly need another fundraiser, and the potential
funds raised from that type of event are not significant.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday,
September 12, 2017 at 7 p.m.
-Melissa Birch, Board Chair
