City Council Minutes I <br /> June 5,2007 <br /> Page 3 of 7 I <br /> ---------------------------- � <br /> � <br /> Tommy Woog, Planning Commission liaison and Chair addressed the <br /> signage issue. He reviewed the process that was used to adopt the sign <br /> ordinance. Mr. Woog stated that he disagrees with Council Member Ryan <br /> regarding the sign ordinance evolving and changing. He noted that the <br /> sign ordinance is a good working ordinance that gives the City flexibility. <br /> He also noted that the ordinance has been in effect for finro years and that <br /> there have been no variance requests other than Mr. Anderson's since it <br /> was adopted. All other businesses have complied with the ordinance. <br /> Tommy Woog presented the Council with a visual of the allowed signage <br /> area for Mr. Anderson's business. <br /> Council Member Sjoblad noted that he was involved with the process of <br /> adopting a new sign ordinance for the City. He indicated that the <br /> community did not want huge signs in the City which is reflected by the <br /> sign ordinance. <br /> Ruth Ann Hanson, Chamber of Commerce, noted that there are some <br /> businesses that have concerns with the sign ordinance. She requested the <br /> Council to look at the sign ordinance to ensure that the City is addressing <br /> the needs of the businesses. <br /> �. COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL MOVED TO DIRECT THE PLANNING <br /> COMMISSION TO REVIEW THE SIGN ORDINANCE WITH THE <br /> CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN SECONDED <br /> THE MOTION. <br /> Council Member Ryan requested that PLADO be included in the review. <br /> Tommy Woog requested the Council to be more specific in regard to what <br /> it is they want studied. Council Member Nagel indicated that it should be <br /> reviewed in relation to the height and area of signs in the commercial <br /> zones and to more fully understand whether the ordinance addresses the <br /> needs of the business owners and the citizens of the City. <br /> COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL AMENDED THE MOTION TO DIRECT THE <br /> PLANNING COMMISSION TO MEET WITH THE CHAMBER OF <br /> COMMERCE AND PLADO TO REVIEW THE EXISTING SIGN <br /> ORDINANCE IN THE COMMERCIAL ZONE. COUNCIL MEMBER RYAN <br /> SECONDED THE AMENDMENT. THE AMENDMENT CARRIED. THE <br /> MOTION CARRIED AS AMENDED. <br /> 6.
