Planning Commission Member Hallan stated he walked down to the wetland and trees
were cut there also. The logger has gone right up to the wetland.
Mr. Reschke stated they were planning to leave the trees that live longer, taking out the
birch, jack pine and poplar. He estimated approximately 2/3 is left to be logged. Mark
Reschke, applicant's cousin, stated approximately 1/3 of the logging has been
completed.
Mr. Burslie reminded the Planning Commission that we are reviewing the Rezone
application; if that is approved, applicant will come back with a Forest Management
Plan to be reviewed.
Planning Commission Member Habein asked how much of the downed timber is from
storm damage. Mr. Reschke stated he doesn't think any is from storm damage; the
dense forest is from years of growing and falling.
Chair Engels asked how many more acres left to cut. Mr. Reschke stated maybe 3o acres
are left. They are not looking to strip it,just thin it, create a driveway and camping area.
Mr. Reschke further stated that in a dry summer, this area could be a tinder box if
lightening were to strike. The longer living trees will be left, such as Norway pines, oak,
and also smaller birch and poplar left to regrow. They only want to thin it out.
Chair Engels opened Public Comment.
Public Comment:
John Nolan,4768 Timber Oaks Road— Mr. Nolan stated his property borders the
southern part of the subject property and asked if there will be a buffer. Mr. Burslie
stated the applicant has indicated a 50 foot buffer and reminded him that this meeting is
for the Rezone request. Mr. Reschke stated there is a row of ribbons indicating the 50
foot buffer.
Kathleen Meyer, 3130 Timberlake Point, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida— If the zoning
stays Shoreline Residential, how many homes could be built, how many feet of shoreline
is there and how many homes could be built in Rural Residential? Mr. Burslie stated the
application is to downzone. Shoreline Residential has a minimum lot size of 20,000
square feet. The proposed Rural Residential zone has a minimum lot size of 5 acres.
There is approximately 75o feet of shoreline which could result in 7 lots for Shoreline
Residential, resulting in 7 new docks.
Planning Commission Member Hallan stated the applicant could plat the parcel into
half-acre lots, which could potentially lead to 60 lots. Mr. Burslie stated there could
only be 7 lake lots if they leave the zoning as Shoreline Residential; they could plat the
off-lake area into additional lots if it is rezoned. If it is rezoned to Rural Residential
MINUTES 2
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
June 15, 2017
