Revised 12.22.16
Pequot Lakes-Thriving Community Initiative
Most Promising Goals/Projects

Quality of Life
Draft Key Strategy: Expand year-around recreational opportunities utilizing existing facilities,
preserving our natural resources, and connecting the community.
Why? To become a more attractive and healthy destination for residents, visitors, businesses,
and a skilled workforce.
Start Year One

1. Expand and communicate year-round recreation activities and opportunities (Ice Rink:6,
Sliding Hill:2, Skate park:2, XC Skiing:3) (19)
2. Utilize community facilities/activities we have, communicate-collaborate- expand (19)
3. Connecting trail systems and create a safe, walkable and bike-able community (14)

Start Year Two?
4. Create traditions and a sense of community (More community events:4) (12)
5. Sport/activity complex (Some of this with Center of Town Park) (7)
6. Clean-up and protect eco-systems (Parks, Lakes and Forest) (4)
7. One stop website with volunteer, recreational and commercial opportunities (4)

Lower in priority
May tie into projects listed above
8. Teen center (1)
9. Support GLAPA and the arts (1)
10. Programs connecting seniors to youth (1)

There was also strong interest expressed at the community meeting to build a
community center. This was not embraced as practical by the core team due to
the high cost and long timelines involved. This may be further investigated in
the future if there appears to be a strong need and the willingness to embrace
the local cost to build and sustain such a facility.
