City Council Minutes July 6, 2017 Page 4 of 9 ----------------------------- Nancy Malecha noted the Memo from Fire Chief Tom Nelson regarding the plans for the Fire Department Street Dance on August Stn COUNCIL MEMBER SWANSON MOVED TO SUPPORT THE STREET DANCE HOSTED BY THE PEQUOT LAKES FIRE DEPARTMENT. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. 8. Police The May 2017 Police Department Report was received by Council. 8.1. National Night Out—August 1St Nancy Malecha informed the Council on new legislation that was adopted allowing cities to solicit funds for National Night Out and events that foster positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON MOVED TO ADOPT RESOLUTION 17- 24 AUTHORIZING THE SOLICITATION OF FUNDS FOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT EVENTS. COUNCIL MEMBER LOUKOTA SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. 8.2. Police Contract with Jenkins Township Police Chief Eric Kiang explained that the Pequot Lakes Police Department was notified of the Jenkins Township Resolution 2-2017 to terminate the Pequot Lakes Law Enforcement Contract and Joint Powers Agreement between The City of Pequot Lakes and Jenkins Township beginning in 2018. Chief Kiang noted that the Police Department has decreased the number of service calls for the Township and believes they may have worked themselves out of a job. He pointed out they have a great relationship with Jenkins Township and appreciates their contribution. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON MOVED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE RESOLUTION 2-2017 FROM JENKINS TOWNSHIP TO TERMINATE THE PEQUOT LAKES LAW ENFORCEMENT CONTRACT AND JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT. COUNCIL MEMBER LOUKOTA SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0.
