APPENDIX B-3 CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES CITY ADMINISTRATOR'S NOTES REGARDING VIRGIL DAHL PROPERTY On 8-30-16: • Virgil Dahl called to confirm our onsite appt with him, Linda, myself, and Chief Kiang on 8-31-16 at 2:00 p.m. Mr. Dahl noted that Dave from the bank will be there as well as his financing source. • Virgil Dahl called to ask if a 12x35 pole trailer could be utilized on his property for him to live in while his house is being constructed. Dawn Bittner clarified that the trailer Mr. Dahl is referring to is a pull behind trailer and she explained to Mr. Dahl that he can utilize this trailer during the construction of his home; however when construction is complete he will have to remove either his fifth wheel camper or this pole trailer as only one can be on his property. On 8-31-16: • At 2:00 p.m., Eric Kiang and I went to Virgil Dahl's property for the first onsite visit. • The NE area of his property by the burning area has an old fish house type building,some logs, and brush. All other items in this area have been removed with the exception of a table, umbrella,and chairs. • The NW area in the woods has a dense amount of items and needs more removal. Mr. Dahl noted that he will be hauling away more items in the coming weeks. He further noted that items he will use when he builds his dwelling will be put in the yellow delivery truck on his property and the old wood stove he wants to keep to use as a campfire area. • I explained to Mr. Dahl that once his dwelling is built he needs to remove the existing buildings on his property. • I told Mr. Dahl that I will call him in two weeks to schedule our second onsite visit. Mr. Dahl was fine with that. • Upon returning to City Hall, I clarified with Dawn Bittner that no abandoned vehicles are allowed on Mr. Dahl's property. All vehicles need to be operable. I inquired with Ms. Bittner if the fencing on Mr. Dahl's property is allowable per the City's zoning ordinance. Ms. Bittner noted that the fencing was approved by the Planning Commission. On 9-16-16: • At 9:15 a.m., Eric Kiang and I went to Virgil Dahl's property for the second onsite visit. • Mr. Dahl has been making progress at removing items from his property; however, he still has numerous items in the wooded area, next to his buildings,and along his fences. • Mr. Dahl requested that the City provide him a letter stating he is in compliance so he can receive funding from the bank to build his house. I informed Mr. Dahl that he is not in compliance as he has numerous items yet to be removed. Mr. Dahl noted that he is working on removing items. Eric and I informed Mr. Dahl that due to his past history in not complying with the City's zoning ordinances,we can no longer take Mr. Dahl's word that he will clean up his property. • We reinforced Mr. Dahl's progress in removing items on his property and told him to keep up the good work as the City would like to see this issue resolved for all parties. • I explained to Mr. Dahl that I will call him again in two weeks to schedule another onsite visit; however,if he would like to have us come onsite sooner he can contact me.
