Dan Frank stated that there are internship services available through the U of M CURA Cap
Program and Center for Small Towns to assist the Steering Committee and/or task forces with
projects such as coordination, vision statements, branding,etc... The Center for Small Towns
may be a better fit for the TCI Program; however, contact can be made to gather more
information. Michelle Kiley also noted that the National Joint Powers Alliance also offers an
internship program and Anna Gruber would be the contact for further information.
4. Vision Statements Update
The Economy Task Force is working to create a personalized vision statement for Pequot Lakes
and will bring it before the Steering Committee in the future.
5&6. Community Action Update and Community Fund Discussion
Mark Jurchen noted that Community Action of Pequot Lakes(CAPL)is interested in being a fiscal
agent for community projects of a smaller scale; however, they would not have the means to
raise and hold endowed funds. Dan Frank informed the Committee on two community
foundation organizations that could be considered for larger scale contributions. One
organization is through the Initiative Foundation and the other organization is the Brainerd
Lakes Area Community Foundation. Both of these organizations offer financial and investment
management services with oversight by a Board of Directors.
7. Initiative Foundation Role Going Forward
The Initiative Foundation will take on a resource role and they have a staff directory that the TCI
Steering Committee and task forces can utilize for future assistance.
8. Other Business
Jim Park requested to meet with a representative from each task force to discuss the idea of
retail enclaves. Jim Park, Mark Jurchen, and Craig Fink will meet on March 22nd at 2:00 p.m.at
the Pequot Lakes City Hall Council Chambers.
9. Elect Co-Chairs for Steering Committee
Nancy Malecha and Jenna Crawford volunteered to serve as co-chairs of the Pequot Lakes TCI
Steering Committee.
10. Set Date for Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Pequot Lakes TCI Steering Committee will be held on April 19th at 3:00
p.m.at the Pequot Lakes City Hall Council Chambers.
Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Malecha
Pequot Lakes TCI Steering Committee Co-Chair
